The SIDS DOCK Island Women Open Network (IWON) held its first meeting in Grenada on January 21, 2016, following its launch in Samoa in September 2014, where St. Vincent and the Grenadines was nominated as the Interim Chair. The IWON aims to empower women in small islands and low-lying developing states to participate in the transformation of the SIDS energy sector, ensuring gender equality in sustainable energy and climate change projects, and building community resilience through capacity building, education, technology demonstration, and financing.
Organized by the SIDS DOCK Secretariat, the SIDS DOCK Island Women Open Network (IWON), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centers (GN-SEC), in partnership with the Governments of the Republic of Seychelles, the Kingdom of Tonga, Belize, the Republic of Mauritius, the Commonwealth of Dominica, and supported by the Government of Austria
